Director, Facilities Management


Southwestern Law School is seeking an individual to oversee the school’s facilities management. This individual will work under the direction of the Associate Dean of Operations and Risk Management and closely with the Building Engineer. This position includes supervision of the facilities department, oversight of food vendor services, investment properties, construction projects, and filming projects at Southwestern.

Essential job functions (including but not limited to)

  • Oversee the facilities maintenance and compliance-related matters
  • Supervise the maintenance staff on daily operations and assigned projects, performance review, and training
  • Ensure Facilities Planning and implementation of projects as established in collaboration with Building Engineer
  • Involvement and oversight in construction projects, vendors, and major renovations
  • Act as department liaison to address facilities issues for school, students, faculty, staff, and Housing staff; including estimates, oversight, and planning
  • Work with the Associate Dean and Building Engineer to determine and implement course of action for emergency projects such as fires, flood, housing, etc.
  • Oversight of food vendor services
  • Manage filming projects
  • First point of contact for investment property matters and working in collaboration with management company

Work Environment/Physical Conditions (include but are not limited to)

  • Office environment with exposure to cleaning fluids, office equipment noise, air conditioning, and heating
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
  • Frequent walking
  • Reach at, above, or below shoulder level to reach equipment, files, or materials
  • Utilization of computer monitor, telephone, copier machine and other office equipment
  • Pushing/pulling open and closed doors, cabinets, and drawers
  • Kneeling, stooping, and/or crouching to reach files or materials or conduct inspections
  • Lifting up to 20lbs
  • Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, gasoline fumes, fire retardant materials, and natural gas
  • Exposure to general construction noise

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree required with five to ten years of experience working in an educational environment with direct knowledge of facilities and compliance.  The position requires a highly motivated and organized individual with the ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines to manage numerous projects and programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
