David McFadden has worked in libraries in law firms, a poverty law support office, a county law library, and an academic law library.  He teaches Advanced Legal Research, Practical Legal Research, and in the first-year LAWS program. He has an interest in international and foreign law. David is active in general library and law library associations especially in the areas of government information, international law, legislative advocacy, library history, and legal information services for the public and prisoners.  He has written about and participated in workshops on legal research for public and prison librarians, inmates, and library school students. 

He was named California Library Association Member of the Year in 2017.  He served as President of the Southern California Association of Law Libraries (SCALL) in 1998-1999 and has been the chair of the SCALL Government Relations Committee for many years.  He has been given the SCALL service award three times individually or as part of a committee and received an advocacy award in 2019 from the Northern California Association of Law Libraries.  On the national level, he received the 1997 American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Presidential Certificate of Merit for work on California legislation and the AALL Robert L. Oakley Advocacy Award in 2015.  

David has been a member of the California Supreme Court Historical Society Board of Directors since 2002. 

When not engaged in professional activities, David can often be found at the Los Angeles Zoo or one of the other three zoos in California in which he is a member.
